"stretch it out everyone... stretch it out"!!
12th of July, brought a gorgeous Sunday Funday afternoon. I can't say so much for team "island hoppers" as they were not able to get find their grove in the first couple innings. Thankfully "no fus Gus" better late then never, showed up and brought "island hoppers" back on the island!!
Rookie awards go out to our newest members - Lucy, Steph, Kerri, John and Anna. Job well done!!
5th inning stretch brought a dry game... aka no one brought beer! see what a bye can do to us. Next week - don't forget!! :)
Go-Go Gadget Arms, Kerri
John aka Rookie of the year kept knocking them out of the park, to finish out the game. Next week I've decided he's on my team.
Rookie of the year - John
Same time same place next Sunday! hope to see ya'll there.

Quadriceps
The all important warm up.
Sunday's game was the first to have official kick ball sanctioned supporters, which included Dr. Roberts, Lorraine and Bo a German Shepherd dog.
A few new faces for me at least, at the game who's names I've all but forgotten but very good to see a good turnout. After a few weeks of playing you can begin to see the development and advancement of the teams as tactics for kicking, passing and hitting are used to outwit the opposing team.
Powerdrive
After a promising start both sides succumbed to injuries, a couple of quad tension injuries, a knee injury and general bruises caused by a realisation that no one is under the age of thirteen, the median age for kickball in the USA.
After a good couple of hours of kickball with lovely sunshine and no wind we retired to the Woolloomooloo Bay Hotel for Nachos and cold drinks to celebrate our kickball achievement.
Kickball LA Paparazzi Style
I believe the heads of Kickball Australia were talking about a "one week recess" which for non-Americans means there will be a gap and kickballing will resume at 13h30 on the 19th of July. See you there. Peace.

Turning it up a notch
Round 3 Slideshow |
We couldn't have asked for better weather for Round 3 of Kickball and the level of play did not disappoint. The highlight of the day was a tie between Tony's 20 meter crawl into 3rd and Chris' acrobatic adventure in the outfield. The sheer speed in which Tony scurried across the ground caused more than a few heads to turn. Chris' Mary-Lou Retton-esqe backward summersault in the outfield would likely have been scored about a 1.3 on a scale to 10 had anyone been counting. Thankfully no one was.
This was the most competitive game to this point with each team splitting a victory. Play was especially enhanced by newcomers Scott, Laura, John and Malisa, who provided both entertainment and talent as well as (most importantly) several additional six packs.
The MVP would have to go to Chuck who hit a home run at least every other at-bat. It was interesting to witness the defensive strategy of the opposite team when he approached the plate. For a team containing 3 MBA graduates you would think they would equate the fact that since the ball was kicked over their heads a previous 7 times, there was a high probability that the 8th would also go in the same direction. But whom am I to judge strategy?
Several other interesting moments of the day included a man and his 2 year old daughter playing out in left field. Now I'm not a father but I'm pretty sure I would not bring my child into a reckless environment that includes balls flying at high speeds and drunk outfielders who typically would be capable of doing little to prevent injury or death. Well maybe not death. It was also great to see some fans turn up for the match, which of course would be a first. I think one of them summed it up pretty well after the game when asked her opinion on the affair, "It took us 2 hours to figure out that the intent actually was to not be on the ground."
We'll be out at it again next Sunday at 1:30 and look forward to seeing everyone there!
