Round 3 Slideshow |
We couldn't have asked for better weather for Round 3 of Kickball and the level of play did not disappoint. The highlight of the day was a tie between Tony's 20 meter crawl into 3rd and Chris' acrobatic adventure in the outfield. The sheer speed in which Tony scurried across the ground caused more than a few heads to turn. Chris' Mary-Lou Retton-esqe backward summersault in the outfield would likely have been scored about a 1.3 on a scale to 10 had anyone been counting. Thankfully no one was.
This was the most competitive game to this point with each team splitting a victory. Play was especially enhanced by newcomers Scott, Laura, John and Malisa, who provided both entertainment and talent as well as (most importantly) several additional six packs.
The MVP would have to go to Chuck who hit a home run at least every other at-bat. It was interesting to witness the defensive strategy of the opposite team when he approached the plate. For a team containing 3 MBA graduates you would think they would equate the fact that since the ball was kicked over their heads a previous 7 times, there was a high probability that the 8th would also go in the same direction. But whom am I to judge strategy?
Several other interesting moments of the day included a man and his 2 year old daughter playing out in left field. Now I'm not a father but I'm pretty sure I would not bring my child into a reckless environment that includes balls flying at high speeds and drunk outfielders who typically would be capable of doing little to prevent injury or death. Well maybe not death. It was also great to see some fans turn up for the match, which of course would be a first. I think one of them summed it up pretty well after the game when asked her opinion on the affair, "It took us 2 hours to figure out that the intent actually was to not be on the ground."
We'll be out at it again next Sunday at 1:30 and look forward to seeing everyone there!
